Your Neighbor. Your Hometown Hospital.
Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital has been a proud part of Kosciusko County for nearly 50 years. We’ve grown with the community, expanding services so you can receive care closer to home, family and friends.
Being your neighbor and serving our hometown is about so much more than the services we provide.
It’s about caring for our neighbors
The physicians, providers and staff live here and raise their families here. We are neighbors providing a deeply rooted, personalized level of care to those who work, play and live close to us.
Dennis’ Story
Dennis, a grandfather of five and a retired professor from Grace College, is grateful for the care he received at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital. During a routine hernia surgery, Lutheran Health Physicians surgeon Dr. Patrick Illada discovered and removed a cancerous mass. When well-meaning friends suggested that Dennis travel outside the area for cancer care, he sought out the recommendation of his physician, who told him that he could receive cancer treatment close to home. After surgery and radiation, Dennis received a clean bill of health and is back to doing what he enjoys most – being with family and friends. Today he gladly tells anyone who asks about the care and compassion he received at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital Cancer Care Center.
Kaytlyn’s Story
When Kaytlyn, a veterinarian, became pregnant with her second child, she knew she wanted a different approach. Her first pregnancy in Michigan had been traumatic and definitely not the experience she and her husband wanted. Afterwards, the family relocated to Milford, Indiana, for their careers and soon found themselves expecting baby #2. After seeking out recommendations from friends, Kaytlyn decided that Lutheran Health Physicians OB/Gyn Timothy Cook would be a good fit to help her navigate this pregnancy. Kaytlyn says that Dr. Cook really listened to her. He and his team cared about her birth plan, and they accommodated her wishes while looking out for her and the health of her baby. After such a great experience, Kaytlyn again chose Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital when it was time to deliver baby #3 in 2023.
Lora’s Story
For 41 years, Lora put her heart and soul into taking care of patients at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital, including several years leading the cardiac catheterization program. Recently retired, Lora was ready to go out to dinner with friends on a Friday evening when she started having pain between her shoulder blades. She didn't think much of the symptoms, but a friend encouraged her to go to the doctor. Tests revealed that one of her arteries was 90 percent blocked and a cardiac cath could help address the issue. Even though Lora had managed the cath lab and knew that they had excellent outcomes, she sought the counsel of Lutheran Health Physicians cardiologists Dr. Mark Meier and Dr. Steven Reed. They agreed that Lora should have her procedure at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital. She underwent a cardiac catheterization and was at home recovering the same night. Soon after, she began cardiac rehabilitation at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital. Now feeling healthier than ever, Lora says that she’s loving life.
It’s about improving the health of our community
Helping people get well and live healthier is the foundation of our work. In 2023 alone, patients received health care through 314,600 hospital or clinic encounters with providers. This includes more than 16,400 ER visits, 5,400 surgeries and 400 births.
As a major employer and taxpayer, Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital is a cornerstone of the economic health of our community. We are honored to help and are extremely proud of our hospital’s more than $116 million local impact in 2023. More than $17 million in charity and uncompensated care helped our community’s most vulnerable, while over $9 million in property taxes helped support local public safety, schools and public infrastructure.
We also understand the importance of extending our reach into the community and are proud to support local organizations that share our goal of enhancing health and wellness in the place we all call home.
It’s about investing to meet our community’s needs
We continue to provide a level of care beyond what’s expected in smaller cities. It’s comforting to know you can remain close to loved ones when health issues arise.
Since Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital opened the county’s first catheterization lab, or cath lab, more than 1,000 patients have received a cardiac cath, a type of image-guided therapy used to diagnose and treat certain heart conditions.
The cancer care center has delivered extensive services for more than 20 years. Patients requiring frequent testing and treatment – imaging, radiation therapy and surgical services – are able to receive care without unnecessary travel.
Progress continues on a $30 million investment that includes 25,700 square feet of new construction and renovation. Improvements include surgical services expansion and updates; renovations to patient rooms and nurses’ stations; a redesigned, customer-friendly lobby and updates to the hospital’s façade.
Our investment also extends to service excellence. We seek accreditations and certifications reflecting a higher standard of care, inviting external organizations to take a closer look at our services. For example:
- Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital has been accredited as a Chest Pain Center for 15 years and is also certified as a Primary Stroke Center.
- The hospital is recognized as an INspire Hospital of Distinction for excellence in addressing key aspects of the health of moms and babies.
- Imaging services – breast ultrasound, CT, mammography, MRI and ultrasound – are accredited by the American College of Radiology. The certified cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program helps patients with heart-related concerns or chronic respiratory disease. The Sleep Disorders Center is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care.
