Gynecologic Cancer
Gynecologic cancers – those that begin in the female reproductive organs – require specialized care for both diagnosis and treatment. Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital provides diagnostic imaging, surgical services and radiation therapy to identify and treat cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
While signs of gynecological cancers can vary, common symptoms may include:
- Abdominal vaginal bleeding or discharge
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Changes in bathroom habits (more frequent or urgent need to urinate and/or constipation)
- Unexplained weight loss
- Bloating
- Pain during sex
Cervical cancer can only be detected with a Pap test, so it’s important to have regular exams and find a provider with whom you feel comfortable talking about any changes in your health. If abnormalities are found, further testing like biopsies may be needed. Treatment can include surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.
