Treatment Overview
While advances in cancer treatment have helped save millions of lives over the last three decades, patients now often face far more complex treatment decisions and follow-up options than they did in the past. In order to help patients get their questions answered, the patient navigator program pairs patients with a nurse, social worker or other certified staffer who will act as a guide through the duration of treatment.
Services:
- 3-D external beam radiation therapy
- Clinical trials
- Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
- Image guide radiation therapy (IGRT)
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
- Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)
Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) utilizes similar techniques as stereotactic radiosurgery to treat metastatic tumors in the spine, lungs, liver, abdominal or pelvis areas. SBRT uses precise patient positioning and extremely accurate radiation delivery to treat small tumors in the lung, live or spine. These machines poses technology which allows radiation oncologists to provide treatment with great precision, speed and patient comfort.
Limitations to using SBRT include the size and number of lesions. Early stage lung cancer can be treated with SBRT alone instead of undergoing lung surgery. Most often SBRT requires 3-5 treatments, but can be completed in one session if the lesion is small enough.
